Pleasant Lady Jian Bing to bring Chinese crepes to Spitalfields

Founder Z, who also launched Soho’s Bun House and speakeasy bar Tea Room, will open the second Pleasant Lady Jian Bing outpost on 11 June. 

Since its launch in April, the restaurant has existed as a hatch in the wall on Greek Street, from which it serves crispy Chinese pancakes, folded and filled with ingredients including Iberico char siu pork; cumin spiced lamb; and grilled miso chicken.

The hatch has proved popular with the Soho and Chinatown clientele, and often has a long queue outside.

When it opens in the Kitchens, the restaurant will have a slightly larger site- although, it will still be operating from a single counter.

“Old Spitalfields Market is the perfect east London home for Pleasant Lady Trading Stall,” says Z.

“The spirit of the market is a great match for our jian bing, which is designed to be eaten on the go – the best way to browse the market stalls will be to grab a jian bing and go for a wander

Pleasant Lady Jian Bing will join the likes of Japanese small plates operator Thousand Knives; nose-to-tail meat specialist Flank; and salt beef, pastrami and Reuben sandwich operator Monty’s Deli.
