The company behind the popular East India Cafe in Cheltenham is looking to raise £55,000 on the crowdfunding website by mid next month to launch Memsahib Gin & Tea Bar in the Gloucestershire town.
It will feature 55 gins sourced from across the world as well as its own masala chai gin and a range of teas. The bar will also serve a selection of small plates and canapes in a similar style to the food available at East India Cafe, whose Anglo-Indian dishes include lemon duck tikka; samosa chatt salad; and railway lamb curry.
The bar’s interior will be based upon the British Raj period of the 19th century.
“Our customers at East India Cafe love our idea of mixing gin and tea together, so it’s a dream come true that we are taking the next step and opening our very own gin and tea bar, which to our knowledge will be the first ever in the world,” says co-owner Litu Mohiuddin.
Memsahib Gin & Tea Bar is slated to open in autumn at the Promenade, a few doors down from its sister restaurant.
