Le Gavroche names Gaetano Farucci as head chef

Gaetano Farucci has been named as new head chef at Michel Roux Jr’s two-Michelin-starred Le Gavroche in Mayfair.

His appointment comes after the departure of previous head chef Diego Ferrari, who opened his first restaurant Caractere​ with his wife Emily Roux, Michel’s daughter, last week.

Italian-born Gaetano has been working at Le Gavroche since 2013, having joined from Novikov as first commis.

The 29-year-old will work alongside Michel and executive chef Rachel Humphrey, with responsibility for developing seasonal menus.

“Over the past five years, he has proven himself to be an exceptional chef, a dedicated employee, and a great mentor for our junior chefs,” says Michel.

“Rachel and I are looking forward to seeing what he’ll bring to the kitchen in his new role.”

Le Gavroche was opened by brothers Albert Roux and Michel Roux Sr in 1967.

“When I joined five years ago, I never thought I’d be in this position but it’s testament to the amazing training and opportunities given to the staff,” says Farucci.
