Plant-based Cambridge restaurant group Stem + Glory will launch its first restaurant in London having successfully crowdfunded £350,000 through Crowdcube.

The restaurant, which operates two sites in King Street and Chesterton Road, has secured a site in the new Bart’s Square development in the City.

Refurbishments on the property began this week, and founder Louise Palmer-Masterton says that the company is gearing up for a January launch to coincide with Veganuary.

The new restaurant will serve breakfast; brunch; express eat-in; and take away options. A new “vegan evening dining concept” will also be launched, alongside special events and tasting menus that were well-received at the brand’s Cambridge sites, often selling out in hours.

“We have been searching for the perfect venue for the launch of our first London restaurant and we know we have found it here,” says Palmer-Masterton.

“It has both a historic location and a unique ‘village’ feel, which sits so well with the Stem + Glory ethos.  It’s a unique and exciting spot. There have been a few delays due to the site being brand new, and also its rather fabulous location - everything had to be done super properly. But we are over the line now, and works begin today!!”

Stem + Glory’s other sites serve healthy, vegetarian dishes including kimchi pancakes; little gem salad; nut roast; ramen; and raw Japanese nori rolls, to eat in or take away, alongside craft beers and wines.

The company has experienced an 84% increase in turnover year on year. It has won a number of awards, including Small Business of the Year at the 2017 Cambridge Business Awards, and Retailer of the Year at the Cambridge Business Excellence Awards 2018.
