The Paris-based Big Mamma restaurant group has confirmed it will launch its first London site in early 2019.

Founders Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux are taking on the former Red’s True Barbecue site in Shoreditch for their debut UK opening.

The currently unnamed Italian restaurant will have 160-covers spread across two floors, with everything from pasta to gelato, limoncello and beer made in-house.

Big Mamma Group operates six restaurants in Paris and recently launched La Felicita, a 1500-cover Italian food hall which it claims is the biggest restaurant in Europe.

“We are moving to London because the city is an absolute dream for us,” says Lugger and Seydoux. “Now that we have built a team in Paris we feel we can cross the channel.”

The team’s in-house design agency are working on the site, which they say will have “the look and feel of Capri in the 1970’s" and avoid the “faux-old” aesthetic.
