Miami's Buns & Buns confirms London launch
Miami-based restaurant brand Buns & Buns has confirmed it will open its long-awaited UK site this month.

The concept, which serves its take on ‘the world’s best breads’, was first reported to be launching at Jamie Oliver’s former Union Jacks site in Covent Garden in January.

It has the backing of Ari Ojalvo of Samba Brands, the operator of Sushisamba and Duck & Waffle, which also have sites in Miami.

Buns & Buns will open on 15 November, with an open plan kitchen serving up bread-based dishes ranging from brioche lobster rolls to  bourbon pork belly bao buns.

There’ll also be whole rotisserie chickens marinated in yoghurt and lime juice for Buns & Buns’ blackened poulet rôti dish with pão de queijo - a Brazilian bread loaded with melted cheese.

Desserts will include bread and chocolate pudding; and soft serve ice cream with seasonal doughnuts.

“I’ve travelled all over the world, and what struck me most was the huge variety of breads at the centre of every dinner table,” says founder Alexandre Zibi.

“I wanted to cherry-pick my favourites and bring them to Buns & Buns, where we hope that every table will happily break bread together, something that people have been doing for thousands of years.”

Buns & Buns opened in Miami in 2014. Its permanent restaurant has now closed and it appears to run a delivery-only operation.
