Island Social Club finds permanent London home
A London Caribbean food and social club is to open its first permanent location next year.

Island Social Club will launch at Curio Cabal, a café by-day, in Haggerston in February 2019.

On Tuesday – Saturday evenings the space will transform in to a social club with a modern British Carribbean restaurant and rum bar.

The project is the brainchild of Londoners Marie Mitchell and Joseph Pilgrim, who have previously run the Pop’s Kitchen, Rumshop and Rotishop pop-ups.

Mitchell's menu will centre on roti, served with curries, while Pilgrim will oversee the in-house rum bar. Food and drink will be accompanied by a nightly roster of events, including live music, exhibitions, discussion panels, poetry readings and more.

Island Social Club will seat 35, with an outside space that will open up in the warmer months.

“We feel that our experience is distinct from anything we’ve experienced on the British high street,” says Pilgrim.

“We want Island Social Club to become an establishment that is a clear representation of our modern London lives. But also a space where we can explore and share our brilliant Caribbean heritage, from island culture to contemporary Black British culture."
