Civan Er will launch Yeni on Soho’s Beak Street in mid-January. It has taken the former site of Vinoteca, which closed in the autumn blaming licensing restrictions.
It comes six years after the chef launched Yeni Lokanta, meaning ‘new eatery’, in Istanbul to critical acclaim.
Yeni in Soho will offer dishes drawn from its sister Istanbul site, including aubergine filled manti with goats’ yoghurt; and oven-roasted ribs with isot pepper on sourdough with cracked wheat, sour cherries and sumac molasses.
On the dessert menu will be salted caramel panna cotta with pumpkin; and smoked buffalo milk ice cream.
Er, who graduated from Leith’s School of Food and Wine in 2005, says: “For me, it’s exciting and humbling to be able to bring Yeni to the city where my professional journey began. Yeni looks forward to inviting London to feast on our take on Istanbul’s style.”
Istanbul's Yeni Lokanta has featured in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Discovery Series, which highlights the next generation of restaurants which may not currently be on the list, but are recommended by a panel of almost 1,000 independent experts from across the world.
