London wine and tapas bar L’Oculto has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the opening of a restaurant and wine bar in Brockley.

The team behind L'Oculto, which already has a restaurant in Lewisham, is looking to raise £50,000 to fund the refurbishment of the second larger site.

Plans for the restaurant include an open plan kitchen and an ‘edible garden’ for plants and herbs.

The larger 40-cover space will also allow the team to host regular cookery classes, with plans to invite chefs and producers from across Spain.

Galician chef Irene Lorenzo will head up the kitchen, offering an expanded all-day menu.

L’Oculto’s first Spanish wine shop-cum-tapas bar in Lewisham serves small-batch wines and specialist Spanish produce including cheese, charcuterie and signature dishes such as Galician octopus served with Spanish potatoes, sea salt, extra virgin olive and paprika.

“It’s always been our dream to offer more than just a great dining experience,” says L’Oculto co-founder Teresa Holmes.

“We have a strong connection with all of our producers and have always looked for ways to share our knowledge of Spanish gastronomy and viniculture with the local community. This new site will allow us to do just that, whilst at the same time delivering more of a restaurant-focused menu. We’re aiming for something a little more refined yet maintaining the warmth and intimate approach that we know our customers love.”

Rewards for supporters of the crowdfunding campaign include a half day in the kitchen with L’Oculto’s chefs, and a paired drinks and tapas dining experience for up to 10 people.
