Paul and Emma Ainsworth have taken on The Mariners pub in Cornwall, replacing their friend and fellow chef Nathan Outlaw.

The couple, who are also behind Michelin starred restaurant No.6 and boutique hotel Padstow Townhouse as well as the more casual pizza restaurant Rojano’s in the Square in Padstow, have acquired the lease of the pub in Rock,  in partnership with Sharp’s Brewery.

The Mariners is currently closed for its annual break and will re-open in early spring under the Ainsworths. It will become their fifth business, with the pair also recently announcing that they were to open a cookery school and chef’s table in Padstow this May.

Outlaw departed from the pub last month having spent five years at the pub.

“When the opportunity arose, we knew straight away that we had to take it,” says Paul Ainsworth.

“2019 will very much be the ‘discovery phase’ – learning what works and what doesn’t – with a refurbishment planned for 2020.”

“Nathan has done a fantastic job over the past five years and we certainly have big shoes to fill. We’re incredibly excited for what the future holds and are committed to ensuring the long-term success of The Mariners and keeping this Cornish jewel a destination for the local community and holidaymakers alike.”
