Thai restaurant group Giggling Squid has appointed advisors to explore options for its next stage of growth.

The 30-strong chain, which is the largest Thai casual dining group in the UK, has hired investment bank GCA Altium to oversee the process.

Giggling Squid was founded in Hove by husband and wife team Andrew and Pranee Laurillard in 2009. It has expanded rapidly over the last few years after receiving a £6.4m investment from the Business Growth Fund.

The company said in 2015 it was targeting 70 sites by 2022, and has also moved from regional openings in to London with two restaurants in Wimbledon and Kingston-upon-Thames.

“Over the last three years we have grown at a measured pace, extending our tentacles across the South of England where we now serve outstanding Thai food at 30 beautiful venues,” says Andrew, who is managing director as well as co-founder of Giggling Squid.

“With our well-resourced operations team, depth of cooking talent, site management succession planning and an unprecedented level of new restaurant opportunities we are very well placed for further growth. We are now looking forward to working with GCA Altium to explore options for the next chapter of growth for the company.”

Giggling Squid has five to seven new sites planned for FY20, including restaurants in Oxford and Chislehurst which are due to open in early April.
