London-based healthy eating restaurant group Abokado has appointed its first managing director as part of its ongoing growth plans for the business.

Kara Alderin, who joined the company last February as operations director, has been promoted to the role of managing director and will join the board.

She will oversee growth at the 24-strong restaurant group, which was founded in 2004 by husband and wife team Mark and Lindsay Lilley.

“Abokado is an incredibly vibrant and exciting brand to work for and I’m thrilled to be helping the company move into its next chapter,” she says. “Watch this space.”

The company has a number of women in senior and management positions and says it is proud to announce Alderin’s appointment on International Women’s Day (8 March).

“Kara not only believes in the long-term vision for Abokado but also lives and breathes our values,” says Abokado co-founder and CEO Mark Lilley.

“When you’ve founded a business it’s not easy to start letting go of the reins. I imagine it’s like giving a step parent shared custody of your child. It's great to have finally found someone who Lindsay and I can trust to help steer the ship.”

Alderin joined Abokado from Fuller’s, where she was head of operations.
