Tommy Heaney is to open his second restaurant in Cardiff this month, following the launch of his first solo venture last autumn.

Uisce (pronounced ‘ish-ka’) will be located next door to Heaney’s restaurant site in the Pontcanna area of the Welsh capital, which opened in October after the chef took on the former Arbennig restaurant and crowdfunded £40,000 towards the project.

The new site will be a coffee and wine bar that is open for breakfast and lunch during the day, and wine and charcuterie at night.

The breakfast menu will feature cooked options such as homemade sausages, Irish black pudding and sourdough bread, as well as yoghurts, seasonal fruit and homemade granola.

Lunch options will include home cooked stews, house salads, and a selection of sandwiches and soups. From mid-afternoon cheese and charcuterie will be available, with the cooked meats cured, cooked and smoked in house.

The drinks list will feature a house-blend coffee, fresh juices, and a selection of old-world wines, house craft beer and gin cocktails. Monthly wine tastings hosted by guest winemakers and industry specialists are also planned.

Heaney competed in the BBC’s Great British Menu in 2017 and 2018, making it to the final both years.
