Chef Atul Kochhar and Tina English, former commercial director of the Cinnamon Collective, are planning to open a second Indian restaurant in central London together in the coming months.

It follows the recent launch of the pair’s first joint venture Kanishka, in Mayfair, which focuses on cuisine from the seven sister states of India.

The name and exact location of the second restaurant is yet to be revealed, but BigHospitality is told by English that it will serve a different cuisine to that at Kanishka.

Kanishka isn’t the only high-end Indian restaurant to open on Mayfair’s Maddox Street in recent months, with Bombay Bustle and Lucknow 49 both located close by.

Kochhar was formally chef-patron of London’s Michelin-starred Benares restaurant, but parted ways last year after apologising for posting some controversial tweets that also saw his contract with the Rang Mahal restaurant in Dubai terminated.

The chef and restaurateur featured on BBC2’s Million Pound Menu in 2018 and 2019, investing in concepts including Marita Lietz and Rupert Smith’s Bubble& and Indian-inspired burger brand Baba G’s. Lietz and Smith began a residency at Kochhar’s Hawkyns Restaurant in Amersham earlier this year, while Baba G’s recently opened its third market location at London Bridge’s Vinegar Yard development.
