The group has taken a site at the intu Lakeside shopping centre in Essex for its tenth UK opening.
The Essex restaurant will serve the same ‘Shack classics’ as the other restaurants, alongside special menu items tailored to the location.
Shake Shack, created by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality group, began life as a hot dog cart in New York in 2001 and now operates more than 200 US sites.
It first crossed the pond to open in Covent Garden in 2013 but has been relatively slow to expand compared to some of its US rivals. It currently has eight London restaurants, and one in Cardiff.
Five Guys also made its UK debut in Covent Garden the same year, but has expanded at pace and now has 103 sites nationwide – with two in the pipeline to open in Camden and Peterborough.
Smashburger, which was founded in Colorado in 2007, also opened in the UK in 2016 and has grown to seven restaurants.
