Jason Atherton has closed his Social Wine and Tapas restaurant in London’s Marylebone.

Bloomberg critic Richard Vines tweeted the news yesterday, adding: “I hear Jason Atherton has plans afoot for [executive head sommelier] Laure Patry as well as other exciting news.”

A team member at Atherton's Social Company confirmed the restaurant had been closed for two weeks but would not comment on future plans for the site.

Social Wine and Tapas opened in 2015, offering accessibly priced rare and fine wines selected by Patry alongside a tapas and snacks menu.

Its closure comes after Atherton rebranded his Mayfair bistro Little Social as No.5 Social last month.

The chef is left with six London restaurants, which also include Berners Tavern, Hai Cenato and Michelin-starred City Social, Social Eating House and Pollen Street Social.

Atherton also runs numerous restaurants worldwide, including Michelin-starred The Clocktower in New York.
