The news comes only weeks after chef patron and creative director Shaw confirmed plans to open a second El Gato, in Liverpool, later this year. It will open within the city’s historical Exchange Flags building, in the space occupied by Paul Adams and Steven Gerrard’s Vincent Café and Cocktail Bar.
Shaw commented: “I was born and raised in Yorkshire and got my first real footing as a chef in Leeds; it’s always been my intention to return and open a restaurant in the city.
“I’ve spent the last four years looking for the right location and when the Jamie’s site became available it was too good an opportunity to miss.”
He added that he had worked hard to build a management team that “sees us capable of expansion”.
The Leeds site is due to open in winter 2019. It was secured by Louise Larking of Fox Lloyd Jones, acting on behalf of Mills Hill Developments Ltd, with Richard Shuttleworth at Pudney Shuttleworth acting on behalf of KPMG the administrators.
