London's 'first whisky hotel' to open this summer

London bar Black Rock is to open what it claims is the capital’s first whisky hotel later this summer.

The basement site in Hoxton is to expand over five floors with a second bar, blending room, and three overnight rooms.

Black Rock, opened by Tom Aske and Tristan Stephenson in 2016, already stocks more than 250 bottles and says it aims to ‘quash stuffy stereotypes about the whisky world’ with its minimalist decor and hip hop soundtrack.

Its more informal Black Rock Tavern bar opened this month with booth seating, five draught beers on tap, and a range of highball whisky cocktails.

A blending room for tastings, where guests will create their own single malt, will open later this summer followed by Black Rock Lodgings.

The hotel will feature two ‘minimalist but luxurious’ compact rooms on the second floor (from £120 a night), while a larger suite (around £160)  will takeover the third.

Black Rock is now taking bookings for September onward.
