Peruvian-Japanese fusion concept Waka is to open a second restaurant towards the end of next month on Houndsditch street in the City of London.

The new site will be roughly 1,000sq ft in size and operate solely as a grab-and-go location.

Waka is the brainchild of siblings Irakli and Nino Sopromadze and focuses on Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese styles that evolved in Peru in the 1800s

It launched its City site on Eastcheap back in September 2017, but the business suffered major setbacks after opening, including extensive flooding in the basement dining area.

As such, the team took the decision last year to relocate Waka to White City Place, and close the Eastcheap restaurant.

The menu at Houndsditch will be the same as at White City and feature a selection of hot and cold dishes, as well as sushi plates, sides and desserts.

Hot dishes include chicken katsu curry; sake and miso salmon anticucho; and Nikkei yakisoba noodles.

Cold options feature a salmon tataki; chicken teriyaki salad; and a vegan bento box.
