Harrods is to open its first stand-alone café in Market Place, Henley, this October.

According to the Harrods website, H Café will be an offshoot of the current Harrods café that’s located within the luxury department store’s Knightsbridge site.

It will offer a menu that features both eat-in and take out options, with the food designed to replicate the current food-to-go and deli offerings available in Harrods’ food halls and restaurants.

According to the plans filed at South Oxfordshire District Council, the ground floor café will feature both counter and table seating.

There are also plans for external seating opposite the café in the square.

Customers will also be able to order from Harrods’ website and pick up purchases at the café.

The announcement of H Café comes during a period of large-scale investment in Harrods’ food and beverage operation.

In June Harrods opened its new Dining Hall, featuring six different bars and restaurants, which marked the latest stage of a two-year phased renovation of the retailer’s historic Food Halls that has also included an overhaul of the Roastery and Bake Hall and the Fresh Market Hall.

Harrods was founded by Charles Henry Harrod in 1834, and has occupied its current building in Knightsbridge since 1912.
