Boxpark is on track to launch its first location outside of London after it received planning permission from Adur District Council to open a ‘seafront dining destination’ on Shoreham Beach.

The Shoreham Beachbox will see a run-down toilet block transformed into a multi-purpose split level cafe-restaurant with a paved outdoor seating area and roof terrace.

It will also feature a centre for water sports, as well as a community space that will be available to local groups.

In March it was reported that Boxpark would be teaming up with Dan Stockland of Hove’s Big Beach Café, which is owned by Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim), for the seafront project.

The ‘pop-up’ street food and retail mall business, which opened its first site in 2010, currently operates three London locations in Shoreditch, Croydon and Wembley.

“Our intention [for Beachbox] from the start has always been to create the best seafront cafe-restaurant in the UK,” says Roger Wade, CEO and founder of Boxpark.

“With planning approval granted we have now taken a large step forward to achieving that ambition.

“I’m confident that our plans will transform this site, turning a run-down block that is a hub for antisocial behaviour into a vibrant destination cafe-restaurant that will put Shoreham Beach on the map.”

As part of its national expansion, Boxpark recently announced that it plans to open 10 further sites in the next five years, and launch two additional concepts: BoxOffice and BoxHall.
