One of the largest curry house chains in Japan is to replace Jason Atherton's Social Wine and Tapas in London's Marylebone.

Coco Ichibanya, which has a footprint of over 1,400 restaurants worldwide, will launch on 39 James Street in the next few months.

It is the second UK opening for the brand, which made its debut in Covent Garden this year and is looking to further expand to shopping centres and high streets in 2020.

The group offers customisable curries with a choice of toppings, spice level and portion size.

Atherton closed Social Wine and Tapas in June after four years of trading.

Coco Ichibanya was founded in Japan in 1978 and operates sites directly and under franchise in the US, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Thailand.

Advisory firm CDG Leisure secured the site for Coco Ichibanya.

Davis Coffer Lyons acted in partnership with Dean Gambles and Co on behalf of Social Wine and Tapas.
