Growing Sri Lankan restaurant group The Coconut Tree is to open its sixth UK site, in Bournemouth.

The business was founded in Cheltenham in 2016 by five Sri Lankan friends, and has since opened in Bristol, Cardiff and Oxford.

Coconut Tree’s menu offers tapas-style plates including battered spicy cuttlefish; hoppers (coconut pancakes); and diced black pork belly cooked in 30 roasted spices.

The group is targeting further expansion and its board of directors includes Anna Garrod, the former managing director of nightclub chain Po Na Na who helped grow the business to 65 sites.

The team told BigHospitality earlier this year they are looking to roll out to 20 UK restaurants, and eventually bring the brand to London.

Coconut Tree is nominated for Best Restaurant Operator – 20 Sites and Under, at Restaurant magazine’s 2019 R200 Awards.
