Gymkhana set to reopen following refurbishment
A statement on the restaurant’s website says: “We are excited to announce Gymkhana will reopen its doors in February 2020 following a period of closure for refurbishment.”
In June a fire broke out inside the restaurant, with reports at the time saying half of the downstairs area had suffered damage and the ventilation system had been destroyed.
As part of the refurbishment, Gymkhana’s basement space has been remodelled, with the bar area repositioned and new furniture installed that’s inspired by the work of Pierre Jeanerette.
The ground floor restaurant area will retain its original design, which is inspired by India’s elite gymkhana clubs.
It will feature both dining-room style and booth seating, as well as a bar area that takes inspiration from an Edwardian drawing room cabinet.
The restaurant will have a total of 90 covers, and continue offer a menu of refined yet punchy Indian dishes.
Gymkhana, which is owned by JKS Restaurants, opened in 2013 and was awarded a Michelin star in 2014.
JKS Restaurants' portfolio also includes Trishna, Hoppers, Brigadiers and delivery brand Motu Indian Kitchen.
The group also backs restaurants including Bubbledogs, Bao and Sabor.
