The Michelin-starred Fulham pub, which is led by head chef Sally Abé, knocked The Sportsman in Kent off the top spot after four years.
It is the first time a London pub has taken the number one position.
The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list is now in its 11th year and ranks the nation’s best gastropubs based on the votes from more than 400 pub owners, food critics and industry experts.
Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs editor Nicholas Robinson says: “I couldn’t think of a more worthy venue. To have the Harwood Arms, headed by Abé, represent the very best of gastropubs is amazing.
“She has impeccable background and champions everything that is great about these unique businesses.”
The Sportsman dropped in to second place, while The Freemasons at Wiswell in Lancashire rounded out the top three.
