A fusion pizzeria is to open on Fortess Road in London’s Kentish Town early next month.

Inspired by the heritage of founder Devinder Singh, East West aims to marry ‘southern Italian-style pizzas with the home-cooked recipes and flavours of northern India’.

All recipes are inspired by the flavours of Singh’s childhood spent in northern India, and reminiscent of Sunday mealtimes where bowls of butter and Achari chicken would fill the dinner table.

Pizzas set to feature on the menu include the butter chicken, with semi dried tomatoes, truffled oyster mushrooms and fennel pesto; the masala jackfruit, with black olive tapenade and grilled peppers; and the saag paneer pizza with grilled artichoke and crispy onions.

“East West is all about the fusion of Indian and Italian, reimagining age-old north Indian recipes, passed down through generations and found on dinner tables across the region and bringing them together with the Western pizza culture,” says Singh.

“I’ve always been a huge admirer of how Italians from the southern regions, Puglia in particular, make their pizza and the light and gentle base found throughout the area provides the perfect stage for punchy Indian flavours.”

Spread over two floors, the 48-cover restaurant will have ‘a relaxed, communal feel’, with wood-topped tables paired with terracotta and light turquoise coloured seating.
