Five Guys considers vegan option

Five Guys is “actively looking at” including a vegan option in its offering, CEO John Eckbert has said.

Eckbert was speaking at BigHospitality's sister title MCA's Food To Go conference in London last week (5 February).

The burger brand, which currently has over 100 UK sites, has only ever had one product launch, its milkshake, since its conception.

When asked about the prospect Eckbert admitted that “the answer is maybe, which is a huge thing for Five Guys.”

“The opportunity to have the family consider a vegan option is interesting and they do have an open mind about it. They’ve said they’ll think about it.”

"It has to be a great product and something that is uniquely ours but there’s a chance for it. There is an open door.”

Five Guys currently does not offer a dedicated vegan or vegetarian burger patty, only a veggie sandwich consisting of sauteed vegetables in a non-vegan bun with optional cheese.

The US chain was founded by the Murrell family in Virgina in 1986.
