Chef Philip Britten has launched a delivery-only restaurant in London.

The Cookout Club begun trading this month and is based out of a ‘dark kitchen’ in Battersea where Britten, who held Michelin stars at Chez Nico and London’s Capital Hotel over 20 years ago, cooks alongside two other chefs.

Billed as an alternative to Deliveroo, Cookout Club’s competitively priced menu is designed to deliver a two-course meal for under £20 a head, with starters ranging from £6.45 - £8.75, mains up to £9.25 and £6.25 desserts.

Dishes include French onion soup (£6.45); baked fillet of seabass on puy lentils and leeks (£9.25); glazed Barbary duck sauced with red wine, red cabbage and glazed onions (£9.25); and lemon tart with clotted cream (£6.25).

Britten was executive chef at the Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge for 11 years, before stepping away in 2000 to pursue his own ventures. This included wholesale fruit and vegetable business Solstice, which counted The Ivy and Fortnum & Mason as clients.

Rather than returning to a traditional kitchen or partnering with established delivery operators such as Deliveroo or UberEats, Britten has now set up his own kitchen and is working with independent courier service Stuart, which transports the dishes in biodegradable packaging.

Cookout Club currently delivers to Brixton, Balham, Kennington, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Battersea, Clapham, Vauxhall, and parts of Kensington and Chelsea.

There are plans to open two further kitchens across London later in the year.
