My Neighbours the Dumplings head chef to host charity dinner
Allen will cook alongside a host of top UK chefs in aid of charity at a five-course dinner, with canapés and a pre-dessert, being held at London's Westminster Kingsway College - where Allen trained to be a chef - on Friday 13 March. All funds raised on the night will go to the charity.
Chefs cooking alongside Allen at the dinner will be The Frog’s Adam Handling (bread and snacks); Kiran Deeny from Hide (starter); The Small Holding’s Will Devlin (fish course); Calum Franklin from Holborn Dining Room (main); Ben Murphy from Launceston Place (pre-dessert); and Alex Harper from The Great Scotland Yard Hotel (dessert).
Allen has so far raised £120,000 for charity Meningitis Now, whose aim is to spread lifesaving awareness about the disease and support affected families, following the tragic death of his brother to meningitis in 2012.
“Originally, I wanted to organise a one-off event in memory of my brother that would raise money for the charity,” says Allen. “Little did I know just how much support I would receive from the industry, friends and family along the way and eight years on we’re still fundraising. Ultimately the hope is that the money and awareness raised will help families so they’ll never have to experience what my family did.”
There will be a charity auction and raffle on the night with prizes including a table for two at Farringdon restaurant Anglo.
Chefs Nguyen and Thomas will be running the London Marathon this year in support of Meningitis Now.
