Five Guys is the latest fast food chain to have announced a partial reopening of its UK estate, with both delivery and takeaway options available.

The US burger chain, which operates 100 sites across the UK, has reopened six sites including two London locations in St Paul’s and on Baker Street.

Two restaurants in Edinburgh have also reopened, as well as one each in Plymouth and Liverpool.

A further reopening of the group's Guildford site is planned for tomorrow (22 April).

All restaurants will offer a full menu, which will be available for delivery or click and collect.

Click and collect orders will all be prepaid, with the restaurants operating strict social distancing policies for those popping in to pick up their order.

While the majority of the UK’s larger fast food chains had completely ceased operations as a result of the Coronavirus lockdown, Five Guys initially kept 13 of its sites open for delivery and takeaway.

“We have adopted a phased approach to reopening Five Guys stores, adhering to government advice and ensuring the safety of our customers and crew is paramount,” says UK CEO John Eckbert.

“To date a small number of stores have remained open for Click and Collect and Deliveroo orders only and while this has been in operation, we’re proud of how our crew members have supported local hospitals and key frontline workers across the UK.”

Last week two of the UK's biggest fast food operators, KFC and Burger King, announced they were reopening a select number of sites as delivery-only kitchens.

KFC has reopened 11 of its UK sites; while Burger King has reopened four.

Both are be serving limited menus, and implementing social distancing procedures in the workplace to protect staff members.

The two operators have each said that further reopenings are planned in the coming weeks.
