In a statement posted on the restaurant's website, owners James Wilkins and Christine Vayssade said: "Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we closed the restaurant back in March 2020. Despite the announcement of the Government allowing us to reopen, we have decided not to do so.
"It has been an absolute joy running our restaurant. Wilks's success is undoubtedly associated with the amazing people we have met and worked with over the years.
"We have loved being in Bristol since day one. We have welcomed here the kindest and most supportive guests we have ever had the chance to work with. Bristol definitely rocks.
"We have worked closely with passionate producers and suppliers who have provided us with tremendous quality produce.
"We have recruited over the years very talented & dedicated young professionals. They have helped us to make Wilks everything it was.
"Many guests, suppliers & members of the team have become friends and we thank all of you who have been part of this experience. We will miss you!"
Wilkins and Vayssade opened Wilks in 2012 and the restaurant won a Michelin star the following year, which it has held ever since.
Wilks's site on 1-3 Chandos Road has traded as a restaurant for over 25 years, and was previously home to Culinaria and Red Snapper
