London-based gourmet fried chicken brand Butchies is to open its second bricks-and-mortar site this Friday (14 August), on Clapham High Street.

The grab-and-go site will be the group's first South London location; hold a license to operate until 4am every night; and have sit down space for roughly eight covers.

As with the group's first location, which opened in Shoreditch back in late 2017, the menu features a selection of six fried chicken sandwiches including The Original with house pickles and homemade garlic and fresh herb aioli; and the Cheesy Rider with cheese dripping, house pickles and Butchies’ sriracha chilli sauce.

There will also be a selection of wings and tenders, as well as - for the first time - Butchie’s own take on popcorn chicken.

The new site will also see the launch of a new 'shorty meal' offer; a kid’s meal priced at £5, including six pieces of popcorn chicken, house barbecue sauce, small fries and a blackcurrant and raspberry juice from Pip Organic.

Butchies was founded in 2014 by Garrett and Emer FitzGerald, and has previously operated street food stalls in Broadway Market, Camden Stables Market, and Market Halls Fulham.

During the lockdown, Butchies launched a dedicated delivery kitchen in Battersea, which will now migrate to the new Clapham High Street site.

“Butchies is a fun, bustling fried buttermilk chicken shop," says Garrett.

"Proudly born on the street, we strive to recreate the energy and community of the street food and music festival scene in all our locations. This location, with its 4am licence, will certainly allow us to do that.

"Clapham High Street is such a fun location, the Common is a short walk away, and when things eventually go back to normal we are bang smack in the middle of the area's infamous raucous nightlife - and ready to serve up to the revellers.”
