Former Gordon Ramsay Group alumnus Michael Carr has been named the new head chef of the Fenchurch Restaurant at Sky Garden, on the 37th floor at London’s 20 Fenchurch Street.

Carr joins the contemporary British fine-dining restaurant, run by catering company Rhubarb, from his post as head chef and manager at The Box Tree in North Yorkshire, which he left earlier this year.

Prior to The Box Tree, Carr spent a number of years as proprietor and head chef of Restaurant92 in Harrogate.

His CV also includes stints working for the Gordon Ramsay Group; and at Northcote Manor.

Prior to that, Carr was part of the team that gained a Michelin-star at Driftwood Hotel in Cornwall; and has also worked alongside Alyn Williams at The Westbury, supporting the achievement and maintenance of the restaurant’s Michelin star.

“I am delighted to be joining the Rhubarb team and to be working at Fenchurch after what has been a very difficult few months for the hospitality industry," says Carr.

"My focus has always been on championing seasonal British produce to create new and exciting dishes and I am looking forward to bringing my signature style to Fenchurch.”

In preparation for the restaurant's reopening later this week, the 2019 Great British Menu contestant has developed new modern-British menus.

"We are very excited to have Michael on board," says Sebastian Grygier, director of Sky Garden.

"With his impressive experience leading a team and overseeing a restaurant, he will be in supporting Fenchurch as it gets up and running again. His creative new menus are sure to delight diners.”

Carr takes over from former Bob Bob Ricard head chef George Farrugia, who was named head chef of Fenchurch in June last year.

The reason for Farrugia's departure is yet to be confirmed, but BigHospitality has reached out to Rhubarb for comment.
