Gordon Ramsay has appointed Matt Abé co-chef patron of his three-Michelin-starred flagship restaurant on Royal Hospital Road in London's Chelsea.

Ramsay announced the news on Twitter this morning (17 September) to mark 22 years since the restaurant's opening.

"The restaurant hasn't been what it is without the team behind it," he wrote.

"That's why I'm excited to make Matt Abé co-chef patron."

Abé has spent more than a decade rising through the ranks of Gordon Ramsay Restaurants in London.

He started his career in his home country, Australia, developing his craft as a chef at Aria Restaurant in Sydney, and then later at Vue du monde in Melbourne.

At the age of 21, Abé made the decision to move to the UK to join Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, starting as chef de partie and then rising to sous chef at Claridge’s.

Then, after two years at Claridge’s, he joined the team at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, working as chef de partie for four years; and then later as chef de cuisine, leading the team in the kitchen.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay was first opened by the eponymous chef back in 1998.

In 2001 it gained three Michelin stars, and has retained them ever since.
