Singaporean restaurateur Ellen Chew is to partner with pâtissier Alix Andre to launch a permanent site for Asian-influenced bakery concept Arôme at The Yards in London's Covent Garden next month.

Established by Chew and Andre last year as a pop up in Soho, Arôme will 'exude style and present a minimalistic feel'.

Interiors will be lined with wooden panels and washed with warm light, with large glass panels giving customers a look into the kitchen operation.

Firmly embedded in French pâtisserie, Arôme’s menu celebrates traditional methods whilst exploring multicultural flavours from Singapore, Japan and France.

The menu will include dishes such as the Gula Melaka Coconut Bun, Laksa Tomato Bread and a selection of well-loved pastries, bread and desserts.

“This latest deal marks a huge milestone for Arôme," says Chew, who is best known for founding Chinatown’s Malaysian and Singaporean restaurant Rasa Sayang.

"Following our pop-up store in Soho, we have put a lot of consideration into finding the perfect location for our first ever bricks and mortar bakery.

"Being based in central London, The Yards Covent Garden is such a desirable area of the West End for foodies.

"We have tried and tested our brand meticulously and there is no doubt Arôme will be a huge hit in Covent Garden.”

Originally from Lyon, Alix honed his skills under names like Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester, Alan Yau at Yauatcha, and later with Rainer Becker at Roka.

Chew, meanwhile, also owns Lobos Tapas in London Bridge and Soho, as well as Bicester Village’s Shan Shui restaurant and Simply Noodles kiosk.

In September it was reported that Chew was planning to open her first Birmingham outpost in the coming months, with the launch of Mrs Chew's Chinese Kitchen at Hammerson's Grand Central shopping centre.
