Fast food giants McDonald’s and Pizza Hut have entered into partnerships with plant-based food producer Beyond Meat to boost their meat-free offerings.

McDonald’s is launching its own meat-free burger the McPlant, developed with Beyond Meat.

The move follows a decision in April to halt a pilot programme in Canada to sell products made by the plant-based ‘meat’ producer, including the PLT burger.

Pizza Hut Delivery has also announced a new partnership with Beyond Meat, which it says is the latest development in a series of ‘growth moments’ for Pizza Hut in the UK.

The company is trialling Beyond Meat plant-based meat pizzas in the UK to meet what it says is growing customer demand for more plant-based, vegetarian and flexitarian options.

Five new plant-based meat pizza options are available - Beyond Three-Meat Supreme, Beyond Italian Style Sausage Supreme, Beyond Beef Sizzler, Beyond Pork & Sweet Chilli, and Beyond Italian Style Sausage Tear & Share Topper - for a limited time.

They will be available in five locations in Luton, Liverpool and London, in Islington, Mill Hill and Finchley, from today (10 November) until supplies last.

The toppings, including Beyond Pork Crumbles, Beyond Beef Crumbles and Beyond Italian Style Sausage have been developed to have the same taste and flavour profile as the regular meat toppings from Pizza Hut.

The move will make it the first national pizza chain in the UK to offer Beyond Meat toppings, it claims.

Over in the US, Beyond Pan Pizzas are available at Pizza Hut restaurants nationwide for a limited time.
