Operators urged to shop around for best energy deals

Following the release of a report that found 20% of hospitality business last switched energy provider five or more years ago, operators are being advised to change suppliers regularly to avoid overpaying for utilities.

Yü Energy’s survey of 500 business owners also found that a large proportion operators are not 'energy savvy', with more than a quarter (28%) admitting they don’t know what type of energy tariff they are currently on or when their current plan is up for renewal. 

The energy supplier's figures show a typical business could be overpaying on their electricity bill by 44% and their gas by a 65%. 

“The hospitality sector really has been impacted this year and pubs, bars and restaurants are looking for ways to save money more than ever to survive the pandemic,” says Yü Energy director of sales and marketing Simon Smith. 

“Being more energy efficient and checking your energy tariff is competitive can save hundreds on energy bills and that’s why now is the perfect time for businesses to take control of their energy use.”  

“As businesses head into one of the toughest winters they have been faced with, implementing energy cost saving factors such as switching unused devices off, installing smart meters and switching energy providers could be the simplest solutions to reducing hefty winter energy bills.”
