Dom’s Subs upcycles Subway site for second London location
The East London-based business, which launched its first permanent site on 262 Hackney Road last year, has taken on a former Subway unit on 22 Bevis Marks for its second London location.
The site has been secured on a turnover-based rent, with the business able to 'upcycle' Subway’s fit-out.
Dom’s Subs serves own-baked subway sandwiches with gourmet Italian-inspired fillings.
Sandwich options include Doms Club featuring roast turkey, ham, bacon, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, guacamole and mayonnaise, served on a house-baked semolina sub roll; and The Roman with tenderstem broccoli dressed with confit garlic and smoked paprika, roast aubergines, marinated artichokes, smoked provolone, romesco sauce, rocket and chopped smoked almonds.
James Raven of Raven Rose, the property agent that acted on the deal, told BigHospitality's sister site MCA: “Despite the area being a ghost town for most of the year, the landlord was pragmatic, agreeing to a turnover based rent.
"The property is surrounded by London skyline icons like the Gherkin and Can of Ham and has delivery reach into Whitechapel, Aldgate, Spitalfields and Bethnal Green.
"Importantly, this was a fully fitted Subway unit, where most of the fit out could be upcycled by Dom’s Subs.
"They were also able to benefit from the introduction of the Class E planning use, allowing them to transition from A1 to A3 and expand their menu to include food cooked and baked freshly on.
