London-based Indian restaurant group Gunpowder is launching a delivery-only offshoot available across the capital that's centred around the Northern Indian tradition of dum biryani.

Called Empire Biryani, the brand is inspired by founders Harneet Baweja and Devina Seth's memories of celebratory occasions that featured the dish as a centrepiece.

All dishes on the Empire Biryani menu will be prepared fresh every morning and delivered via courier to addresses within the M25 and via Deliverioo for same day delivery within six miles of the group's Tower Bridge restaurant.

The signature biryani, prepared over a 36-hour period and delivered topped with shortcrust pastry to bind the flavours, is available to order with either lamb shank or Shahi mushroom and is designed as either a main or to share.

Side dishes, meanwhile, include achari aloo gobi – pickled cauliflower and potatoes; pepper chicken fry tossed with curry leaf, onions and spices; and beef boti kebab that's marinated and slowly cooked over charcoal.

“I’m delighted to be able to deliver one of my favourite dishes from back home to Londoners," says Baweja.

"I really miss India but am pleased that everybody can partake in a gastronomic journey from the comfort of their own homes.

"Whilst we’re very much looking forward to having our restaurants open again, I’m equally excited to bring my beloved biryani into people’s homes.”

Available individually as well as part of a feasting selection, the team have created two DIY 'feasting kits' that can be pre-ordered for delivery. These include a signature biryani, two side dishes and dessert to share.
