Hard Rock Cafe heads to Newcastle

Hard Rock Cafe is to open its first outpost in the north-east of England later this month, having secured a site at the Quayside’s historic Guildhall in Newcastle.

The 180-cover restaurant will be split over two floor and feature a US-inspired menu of burgers and sandwiches alongside a range of ‘boozy milkshakes’ and 'signature' cocktails.

In true Hard Rock fashion, diners will be seated alongside glass cabinets filled with rock and roll memorabilia, and there will also be a Hard Rock – Rock Shop selling themed merchandise.

The restaurant franchise was secured by North East healthcare entrepreneurs David and Penny Tilly, with the support of NGI and NE1.

“It’s been quite a rocky road what with the obstacles that inevitably come with listed buildings and, of course, a global pandemic,” says Penny.

“But Hard Rock has been incredibly supportive. As everyone knows, their standards are incredibly high, but they’ve backed us to the hilt and now we just want to see people’s faces when they see it.

“I think they’ll be blown away – and it’s a great coup for the city to have the first ever Hard Rock Cafe in the North East of England.”

The original Hard Rock Cafe was opened in 1971 on Old Park Lane in London by Americans Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton.

It has subsequently gone on to launch two further Hard Rock Cafes in the capital, the most recent of which opened on Piccadilly Circus in 2019; and a Hard Rock Hotel near Marble Arch. It has also opened a Cafe in Manchester.

Newcastle will be the group's sixth UK location

Hard Rock International operates 248 locations spanning 70 countries that include owned licensed or managed hotels, casinos, Rock Shops, Cafes, and Hard Rock Live concert halls.
