Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo is to open an ‘upmarket’ Italian restaurant in the space that was once home to Zela London within The Strand-based ME London hotel.

Named after his first born son, Luciano will be the This Morning chef's fourth collaboration with Meliá Hotels International and is set to open on 26 July.

There will be a ‘beautiful’ open-plan restaurant seating 100 and space for a further 100 guests on a terrace that wraps the sides of the hotel.

The 18-year-old Luciano D’Acampo is set to be involved with the venue, but in what capacity is unknown.

Lorenzo Minini will helm the kitchen as executive head chef having worked at a number of London restaurant including StreetXO and Cipriani.

Created by D’Acampo and Minini, the menu will offer ‘Italian classic dishes with a focus on quality and ingredient provenance’.

The general manager will be Giovanni Galluccio, previously of StreetXO and Cecconi’s Mayfair.

Chris Edwards from Salt of the Earth is working with D’Acampo to design a cocktail menu, and the venue will also have an extensive wine list ‘including iconic Italian brands and exciting new names’.

“We have been looking for the perfect central London location in which to develop this new five-star concept for some time, and at the ME London, in the heart of the West End and a stone’s throw away from Covent Garden, we have found it," says D’Acampo.

"To have the opportunity to work together with my son Luciano on this amazing development, and after whom the restaurant is named, is incredibly special. I cannot wait to open the doors.”

According to his website, D’Acampo is involved with a total of ten restaurants, predominantly in the north.

The celebrity chef has run a number of London restaurants but according to the website Luciano will be his only London site when it opens later this month.
