Brawn duo Ed Wilson and Josie Stead have re-opened Margate’s Sagasso in partnership with the restaurant’s founder Matthew Herbert.

Billed as a sister restaurant to the husband and wife duo's highly-rated Hackney restaurant, Sagasso overlooks the north Kent town’s harbour and is focused on British seafood.

While food will be largely locally sourced, the restaurant will take inspiration from European coastal cooking with a seasonally drive menu that includes squid, friggitelli peppers, chickpeas, mojo verde; crab and girolle spaghetti; and alentejo pork and clams.

Alongside the food is a 40-50 bottle list of ‘real’ wines that regularly change to reflect the time of year, as well as a selection of vermut and draught beer.

The 30-cover site has a mix of high window tables looking back on Margate’s Old Town and bar seating. An additional 40 outdoor covers will be available outside on a walk-in only basis

The team at Sargasso is helmed by head chef Marcelo Rodrigues (Rubedo, Brawn) alongside managers Zac Gates (Bright, Brawn) and Carmen Mac (Trullo, Peg).

The trio have forged their partnership over the years working together in various east London restaurants and running a host of their own successful pop ups and events.
