Marlow pub The Oarsman will re-open its doors in September under the new ownership of former Fat Duck Group chief operating officer Nigel Sutcliffe and business partner James Mclean.

The pair, who have worked together for over 20 years and now run consultancy Truffle Hunting, are relaunching the pub with a new open kitchen and refurbished interior. Located on Spittal Street, The Oarsman will feature a bar area as well as a 50-cover bistro with additional outside seating areas.

Before his role at The Fat Duck Group Sutcliffe was managing director of The Crazy Bear Group. Mclean started his cheffing career at Reads in Kent before moving on to Interlude and The Greenhouse. He has also been head chef at The Stonor Arms in Henley-on-Thames and chef manager at The Goose, also in Oxfordshire.

The pair currently work alongside the team at The Crown at Bray.

“James and I are delighted that we will be re-opening such a fantastic property in the coming months,” says Sutcliffe.

“We have some exciting plans for guests and hope that we can bring something to Marlow that compliments the existing offering. We rely on our local audience and can’t wait to welcome them as soon as we are ready to.”
