PizzaExpress has converted its London Aldwych restaurant on The Strand into a vegan pop-up.

The fully vegan menu includes plant-based iterations of the brand's signature pizza toppings, as well as new starters, sides and salads.

PizzaExpress has been working with plant-based meat company Jack & Bry for just over a year to develop an exclusive vegan pepperoni that will feature across the menu

Pizza options include the Sloppy Vegan, which was first trialled earlier in the summer and features Quorn pieces with green pepper, red onion, tomato, smoky chilli, garlic oil, fennel seeds, vegan mozzarella and parsley; and the American Jack with smoky jackfruit ‘pepperoni’, tomato and vegan mozzarella.

New dishes meanwhile include hot jalapeño dough balls; a 'raw slaw' with red and white cabbage, carrot, red onion, parsley and house dressing; and vegan melanzane with grilled aubergine, Italian tomato sauce, garlic, vegan mozzarella and parsley.

The opening of the plant-based pop-up, which is set to run through the autumn, comes ahead of the launch of PizzaExpress' new menu that will be available across its c.375-strong estate from this week and features new vegan versions of the chain's signature pizzas including the American Hot, Diavolo and Forza.

Shadi Halliwell, chief customer cfficer at PizzaExpress, said: “Our new vegan menu is so wide ranging and delicious that it deserves a pizzeria of its own – so that’s exactly what we did.

“Vegan PizzaExpress is our first restaurant that will serve our vegan menu exclusively and is a true showcase of these authentic flavours that we’ve been perfecting since 1965. We’re thrilled to finally open the doors and can’t wait to welcome everyone from across London and beyond as they come to enjoy our wonderful new vegan menu.”
