Chef Mark Jarvis is to launch a new 'contemporary British' restaurant on Holbein Place in London's Chelsea later this month.

Opening on the site previously occupied by Liv Belgravia, where Jarvis was chef director, 1771 is 'inspired by the restaurant’s locale' and takes its name from the year the area was first established.

A Sacramento green facade embellished with hand-cut fresh flowers will welcome guests, while the restaurant will be filled with shades of warm tan and green using fabrics from Chelsea-based luxury interior designer Rose Uniacke.

The 50 cover dining space will be spread across two floors and feature banquette seating upholstered in Uniacke's linenmarble-topped tables, and seagrass flooring.

Jarvis will serve both a tasting menu and 'sharing menu' of small plates featuring 'refined, creative cooking' using 'carefully grown, locally sourced produce'.

Dishes set to feature at launch on the tasting menu include cured trout and potato souffle in a parsley emulsion; oak grilled langoustine in a shell emulsion served with white soy; and poached halibut with mustard greens and charcoal.

The sharing menu will include dishes of scallops barbecued in their shell served with seaweed butter; whole truffle-roasted chicken; and wood fired jacket potato with cultured cream and caviar.

"It has been a really tough year for our industry so we are thrilled to be opening this restaurant, especially in west London which is an area I’ve always loved," says Jarvis.

"We can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been working on and to try out these fantastic new flavours."

As well as the restaurant, 1771 will also feature a bar area that is 'designed as a homage to the Pop Art movement' and will hold an original print of Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans.

Jarvis is also chef patron of Anglo in Farringdon.
