The majority of employees who were still on the Government’s furlough scheme when it closed at the end of September have returned to their jobs, according to the latest official data.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reports that 65% of these employees returned to work on the same hours that they had pre pandemic, with only 16% going back with reduced hours.

Just 6% of employees returned with increased hours.

The statistics show that only a small number of people left their jobs, with 6% either laid off or left voluntarily.

ONS statistics show that 210,000 employees came off furlough during September – and about half the 1.1 million people still being supported were on flexible furlough working for some of their hours in the workplace.
