Scottish chef Nico Simeone's latest Glasgow restaurant is a charitable venture that supports a cause close to his heart.

What: A new charitable restaurant in Dennistoun, Glasgow, that is donating 100% of its profits to Scottish-based Beatson Cancer Charity.

Who: As the 6 in the title hints, Beat 6 is from the group behind Six by Nico, run by Scottish chef and restaurateur Nico Simeone.

The food: Six by Nico is an ever-evolving concept that sees Simeone run month-long themed menus inspired from locations across the world. At Beat 6 he’s put together a ‘greatest hits’ menu of some of the most popular dishes that have been throughout the years to create a globetrotting six-course offer that is unlike anywhere else you’ll find in Scotland’s second city. The launch menu comprises raclette fondue – a snack from The Alps menu – with crispy pigs head, and quince; beef carpaccio with burger sauce, aged parmesan, and pickled cucumber; cacio e pepe agnolotti with Crown Prince Pumpkin and parsley emulsion from his New York - Little Italy menu; and Scrabster cod, caramelised cauliflower, curry sauce, caper and raisin from the Fish supper 2.0 menu. The final two dishes are a Penang chicken with sweet ptato, papaya and peanut salad, coriander emulsion; and a Six by Nico classic from The Chippie menu of deep-fried Mars Bar with an Irn Bru sorbet and chocolate soil. There’s also a vegetarian alternative for every course. As with Simeone’s other restaurants, Beat 6 is competitively priced with its six-course menu £32 per person with a drinks pairing for an additional £27.

The vibe: The 34-cover restaurant has a neo bistro stripped back vibe to it. The décor has an industrial feel to it with grey concrete walls, exposed brickwork and bare lightbulbs hanging from a frame. There’s also a white marble counter that overlooks the tight open kitchen that is split into two by a wall with four seats either side.

And another thing: Beatson Cancer Charity holds a special place in the Simeone family for providing much-needed treatment for Simeone’s wife Valentina, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 25.
