Restaurant group Aspirational Brands is to open a British restaurant on the former site of Tredwells in Covent Garden this spring.

The as yet unnamed restaurant will be the flagship site for the company’s British-themed restaurant. The 5,000sq ft, three-floor site, located on Upper St Martins Lane, will serve an extensive all-day dining menu and will have a bar area as well as an al fresco terrace when it opens in March. Dishes will include steaks and grilled octopus salad as well as brunch items such as avocado on toast.

Aspirational Brands is led by former Red’s True Barbecue regional general manager Adam Howitt and owns a number of restaurant concepts, including Handmade Burger Co, which was bought out of administration. The company is also set to reopen the Handmade Burger Co restaurant in Peterborough this spring following its closure in 2020.

“With its exciting line-up of cuisines from around the world, Seven Dials presents the perfect location to continue our growth within the UK and debut location in London,” says Howitt.

“We are proud to be in such brilliant company and our new restaurant will deliver a great tasting British contemporary menu and provide an authentic dining experience. We are confident that Seven Dials visitors will enjoy our food when we open and establish ourselves firmly within the West End community.”

Covent Garden restaurant Tredwells, which was run by Chantelle Nicholson, closed in 2021 after seven years of trading.

The new restaurant is one of a number of new food and drink offers to open at Seven Dials. Recent new additions include Indian concept Chai Guys; British barbecue and smoked meat operator From The Ashes BBQ; and small-batch doughnut bakery Longboys, which have all opened at Seven Dials Market.

In addition, boutique ice cream parlour ANITA will make its UK debut at the end of April on St Martin’s Lane with a 1,000sq ft site.

“Seven Dials has become a diverse arena for food, celebrating culinary culture and emphasising its position as a diners go-to destination. We are proud to be working with all these established and independent brands, helping them become a part of the Seven Dials community whilst giving them exposure to the area’s engaged visitors,” says Julia Wilkinson, restaurant director at Shaftesbury.

“Each of these brands and new concept, align with the rise of mindful consumption which the pandemic has prompted, and the deals reflect our curated leasing approach which ensures there is always something unique to discover and experience within Seven Dials.”
