Filipino fast food chain Jollibee is finally set to make its debut in Scotland with openings in Edinburgh and Glasgow planned within the space of a month.

On 24 February, Jollibee will open its doors on 136 Princes Street in the Scottish capital’s city centre; followed less than a month later with the launch of its second Scottish store, in Glasgow, on 25 March.

“This is an important moment for us as we introduce Jollibee to Scotland with not one, but two restaurants launching within a month, showing our commitment to expand in Europe,” says Ernesto Tanmantiong, CEO of Jollibee Group.

“We are looking forward to serving our Scottish customers delicious food in a joyful restaurant experience. We know there are many in Scotland who have waited a long time for Jollibee to arrive and we’re excited to see the local communities experience Jollibee for the first time.”

Jollibee was originally founded in 1978 and has over 1,500 stores across 17 countries, including the USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, UAE, and the UK in England and Wales.

The first Jollibee in the UK opened in London in 2018 and has since grown to nine locations across the the country with sites in Cardiff, Newcastle, Liverpool and Leeds.

Back in 2020, the group said it was aiming to open 50 restaurants across the UK within five years, as well as grow its presence in Italy, Spain and other European markets.

Then, in March last year, amid a flurry of openings, it said it was planning up to 20 UK launches in 2022 as part of a £30m expansion drive.

“The reception for Jollibee in 2021 gave us confidence that our new store design and locally-relevant menu created specifically for our European audience was working,” says Dennis Flores, president of Jollibee Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia.

“We are very happy to be opening on the busiest streets in Edinburgh and Glasgow and expect to see big queues of chicken lovers at the launch.”

Jollibee is best known for its Chickenjoy fried chicken; Jolly Spaghetti, which is topped with chopped up hot dogs and tomato sauce; and a breakfast dish of corned beef with garlic rice and egg.
