Tinie Tempah has become the latest rapper to get into the fried chicken game, teaming up with YouTube chef Big Has to launch a wrap-focused virtual brand that will debut with a residency in central London.

Created in partnership with Kitchen Ventures, RAPS will be available for delivery via Deliveroo across much of the capital from 12 March with plans to expand delivery both nationally and internationally.

The launch will be supported by a four month-residency at Willows on The Roof, a cocktails and events venue atop John Lewis' Oxford Street flagship.

Tempah - whose hits include 2010’s Pass Out - has spent the last year in the kitchen with Big Has (Zuhair Hassan), who graduated from Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen training program in 2011 and worked at a number of top London restaurants including Palatino and Sardine before launching a successful YouTube channel.

“RAPS just felt right. Food is an exploration of culture through its ingredients and flavours and London, the city I’m from, is rich with diversity and culture; it was really exciting to work on something where I was able to combine the food I love and grew up on (both in the home and on the high street) and the music that inspired me to be who I am today,” Tempah says.

The initial menu consists of chicken wraps which include the Unruly, featuring deep-fried jerk marinated corn-fed chicken, plantain, jerk BBQ sauce and lime mayo slaw, and Tempah’s personal favourite, the African Giant which sees buttermilk-fried chicken, jollof salsa, plantain, lettuce, tomato and mayo.

The menu will also offer Unknown T’s Buttermilk Brined Tenders and Peng Wings.

RAPS will be going up against DJ Khaled’s Another Wing virtual fried chicken brand, which launched late last year, and is the latest in a long line of poultry-focused ventures from rap stars.
